Professional wrestling is an activity that is not usually portrayed in very high regards by many people. I am a professional wrestling fan and habitually watch it every Monday and Friday, usually buying the PPVs (pay-per-views) every month as well. It never fails that whenever I mention my interest in watching wrestling to new people that I meet, especially if they are female, I receive similar reactions of distaste. They feel the need to look at me as if I am completely out of my mind and some of them even relay that exact information to me. It seems as though I have to either be a male or uneducated to enjoy watching pro wrestling. They say, “You know wrestling is fake, right?” “Why would you watch something you know is rigged?” Well, I watch something that is “rigged” because I, as a viewer do not know the outcome before I watch it. It is entertaining to me. This widespread notion that professional wrestling is “fake” simply because it is “predetermined” is ridiculous. These two words are not synonyms and cannot be interchanged freely.
